About Pilates
Pilates is a method of body conditioning created by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th Century and was originally called Contrology.
It is a series of exercises which involve working on breathing, posture and alignment. This often requires changing the way our bodies have become used to working due to lifestyle, occupation, injury and stress.
It is based on the principles of concentration, control, centring, breathing, flowing movements, precision and balance. It creates both a better awareness of the body and focus of the mind.
Pilates can be extremely beneficial for lower back pain sufferers as a form of rehabilitation and injury prevention, as it is both a gentle form of exercise and can also be tailored the individuals needs.
